Get Your Tickets for the Lincoln Lagers Annual Bus Tour – Destination Omaha
Our April social event will be the bus tour to Omaha. The three-brewery tour is set up for Saturday, April 23. We are touring and sampling beers from the Bearded Brewer Artisan Ales, Monolithic Brewing and Site 1 Brewing. All the details will be listed on the front page of the club’s website. 402 Quarterly Contest
We are doing a second year of the quarterly homebrew contest with the Local 402 Brewer’s Union from Omaha. This year we are mixing it up with each club choosing a style for each quarter. Please keep these styles in mind when planning out future brew dates. We will probably do the intra-club judging of American Pale Ale and Saison at the May or June club meeting. Top two entries for each style advances to the head-to-head contest with the 402s. The rest of the styles and judging months are below. Brew your American Pale Ale and Saison. Check out the BJCP Style Guidelines for details on these and all of the recognized styles.
March: English IPA & British Golden Ale (Omaha)
> June: American Pale Ale & Saison (Lincoln)
September: Cider & Vienna Lager (Omaha)
December: Imperial Stout & English Barleywine (Omaha)
2022 Kegs for the Cure – Zipline Brewing – June 24
Gordon Coke is looking for beer for the “Kegs for the Cure,” a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This year will be the 13th annual event. It will be held at Zipline Brewing Company on Friday, June 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. If you would like to contribute cash or homebrew, contact Gordon at (402) 730-8480, gcoke@flatwatergroup.com. 402 Quarterly Contest

Lincoln Lagers Monthly Meeting & Holiday Pot Luck Get Together
Where: Cosmic Eye Brewing, 6800 P Street, #300, Lincoln, NE 68505

We’re kicking off the new year with a little get together at Lincoln’s own Cosmic Eye Brewing Company. We’d like to thank head brewer Sam Riggins for hosting the club. Bring some grub ‘n’ brew to share. Sample a pint of Cosmic Eye’s tasty brew too. The club will provide some plastic ware and plates. We’ll be announcing the results of the election for your 2022 officers. In addition, this would be a perfect time to renew your club membership. It’s still only $25 for the year. Such a bargain!
Speaking of elections, check your email. All members should have received a ballot and that ballot is due by midnight on Jan. 5. Please vote. Thank you!
Speaking of bargains, we’re working on a return to road trippin’. Yes, the annual bus trip is coming in February. We’re looking at late in the month with a run to Omaha. There are some new breweries in the “Big O” and we’re itching to get up there and try ’em. More details to follow soon, so stay tuned!
Assuming pandemic things stay somewhat in check (you got your shots, right?), we’d like to resume the off week in our beer calendars to get our socials going again. We’re looking at the end of January to check out one of Lincoln’s newest breweries: Corn Coast Brewing. They’re located at 1433 Dahlberg Drive, which is just north of South 14 Street and Yankee Hill Road. Look for a gathering at Backswing Brewing in March.

Hey! Homebrewers! All full of turkey and pumpkin-spiced everything? Time to share some homebrew!
The next monthly meeting of the Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club will take place on Thursday, December 2, 2021. We’re meeting at Lee’s Chicken, our return to the December tradition. Oh and don’t forget that the mask mandate is still on in the city. I know, I know. Just do it for now. Thank you! 
Show up around 6 p.m. for social hour and chit chat. Have some chicken or onion rings while we’re hanging out. Meeting and beer business is at 7 p.m. We’ll be talking about 2022! What? Yes. This year is almost toast. It’s time to think about officer elections and a possible bus trip in the new year.
We’d also like to do the intraclub part of the 402 comp that night. Anyone who wants to participate, please bring three bottles of your dopplebock. The head-to-head part with the 402s will be Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Cosmic Eye.

Lincoln Lagers Leftover Sower’s Cup Beer Social & Monthly Meeting!
Sunday, Nov. 7, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Are you all ready to meet in person and drink some homebrew? It’s time to combine our monthly meeting with a social gathering and taste some Sower’s Cup beer!
When you enter a beer into a competition like the Sower’s Cup, you enter two bottles. If your beer makes the grade and goes to the Best-of-Show round, the second bottle moves on up. If it doesn’t get a first, then it either goes down the drain or gets filed away until an opportunity arises. That opportunity will be on the first Sunday of November. We’ll meet at 2 o’clock and then cover some club business with a brief meeting at 3:00.
We’re gathering at Doug Finke’s new place: 4850 Quarry Ledge Road, Roca, Nebraska. It’s about 20 minutes south from central Lincoln. Yes, long-time members have lots of fond memories of Big Brews and gatherings out at Doug’s old place on A Street. All good things must come to an end, however, the new place is going to be fun. Thank you, Doug, for hosting!
In addition to the leftover Sower’s Cup beer, bring along some of your own homebrew and an appetizer to share. See you at Doug’s on the 7th! Cheers!
A BJCP Registered Competition
This Saturday, Aug. 28, at White Elm Brewing Co. is the brewery’s (Re)Cyclery Day. The Lagers will be located outside along with two other vendors. We’ll set up at 9:00 am. Feel free to bring any brewing equipment or glassware you would like to get rid of that day. Remember to price it and put your name on it, and that you have to come back and get it by 1:00 p.m. if it doesn’t sell. Kim Theesen and Patrick McCabe will be manning the booth for the club. Additional volunteers are welcome!
There will be numerous events being held in conjunction with this at White Elm, including the release of six stouts. It is a family friendly event, so bring the kids as well. Click here for more details from White Elm’s event page on Facebook.

LINCOLN LAGERS IN THE NEWS… Mark Beatty (pictured right and the actual medal), with Kim Theesen, scored a bronze medal in this year’s National Homebrew Competition with an English Old Ale. This year’s category 22 (Strong UK Ale) fielded 120 entries. “Emma’s Ale,” named after Kim & Anita’s late brew dog Emma, was the only entry from Nebraska to earn a medal. Big time kudos!
NEBRASKA SHOOTOUT 2021! Congratulations goes out to the Homebrewers Local 402s for winning. The Lagers finished in the top three with seven points, with Jason McLaughlin taking first place in both Wood Beers and the 4 Things categories, while Patrick McCabe took third place in Fruit Beer. (Jason and Patrick pictured below.) The Lincoln Lagers would like to recognize Paul Breitkreutz, Mark Beatty, Brett Jeffrey Walburn and Quincy Wiens for entering beers into the competition. The results are up on the website (click here), but individual score sheets aren’t available yet. The competition will be in Omaha again next year with Homebrewer’s Anonymous Club hosting. KEGS FOR THE CURE! The twelfth annual edition takes place this Friday evening, Aug. 6, at Cosmic Eye Brewing, from 6 to 9 p.m. Brewers from the club donating beer to this charitable event (American Cancer Society) include Zach Fenton, Lacy Phillipe, Mark Beatty, Dustin Deischer, Jim Novotny, Adam Johnson and Paul Breitkreutz. The latest details, including donation information, can be found at the KFTC website.
TIME TO SOCIALIZE! The August Social will be out at 56th and Pine Lake Road on Sunday, Aug. 22. We’ll make an afternoon of exploring the wonderful beers of Catalyst – Kitchen, Taproom, Patio & Brewing Co., Zipline Brewing Company’s Beer Hall and Boiler Brewing Co. South. We’ll start at 1 p.m. at Catalyst, move to Zipline at 2 p.m. and finish at Boiler at 3 p.m. See you then!
BICYCLE SWAP MEET AT WHITE ELM! Here’s what we know so far about this White Elm Brewing event: It’s Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021. Load in can begin at 8:30 a.m., booths are 10′ x 10′, most of the vendors will be in the brewing area with a few outdoors (weather permitting), limited amount of tables, Pepe’s Bistro will be serving breakfast burritos in the morning, Motor Foods will be there for dinner and the band is TBA. More details to come soon!
THE CLUB PICNIC! We’re looking at a return to the annual Lincoln Lagers Pot Luck Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Tim & Theresa Thomssen are opening their lovely home for yet another fun evening. Hopefully it will be cooler by then. In the past, we’ve done a pot luck format, along with Tim cookin’ up something meaty on their home system. Oh, you Cornhusker footbal fans! You won’t miss the game versus the Sooners; it’s scheduled for an 11 a.m. kick off. More details about the menu and brew to come in the September Brewsletter.
THE SOWER’S CUP! We’re on! Yes! This event will take place on October 15 & 16, 2021, at the IBEW Local 265 Banquet Hall. We’re looking at a maximum of 308 entries. Zac Triemert and Brickway Brewery are in for our glassware sponsor. More sponsors to be announced soon. If you want to sponsor or be involved in the most fun brew event of the year, please pay attention at the meeting and follow along. Lots of opportunities for volunteering; we’ll need several stewards and judges. For the latest information, keep your eye on the Sower’s Cup page on the club’s website.
Quarterly Contest with the Omaha’s Local 402s Homebrew Club… The third round of the quarterly contest with the Local 402 Homebrewers Union from Omaha will feature Festbier/Märzen, and for the fourth-quarter, we’re looking at dopplebock.
