The next conclave of the Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club will take place at The Happy Raven,
Thursday, August 5, 2021. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. Meeting at 7 p.m.
Bring some homebrew to share. “Mystery Beer” contest and tasting to follow.
HEY! WHAT ARE YA BREWIN’!? COME JOIN US! 

LINCOLN LAGERS IN THE NEWS… Mark Beatty (pictured right and the actual medal), with Kim Theesen, scored a bronze medal in this year’s National Homebrew Competition with an English Old Ale. This year’s category 22 (Strong UK Ale) fielded 120 entries. “Emma’s Ale,” named after Kim & Anita’s late brew dog Emma, was the only entry from Nebraska to earn a medal. Big time kudos!

NEBRASKA SHOOTOUT 2021! Congratulations goes out to the Homebrewers Local 402s for winning. The Lagers finished in the top three with seven points, with Jason McLaughlin taking first place in both Wood Beers and the 4 Things categories, while Patrick McCabe took third place in Fruit Beer. (Jason and Patrick pictured below.) The Lincoln Lagers would like to recognize Paul Breitkreutz, Mark Beatty, Brett Jeffrey Walburn and Quincy Wiens for entering beers into the competition. The results are up on the website (click here), but individual score sheets aren’t available yet. The competition will be in Omaha again next year with Homebrewer’s Anonymous Club hosting. KEGS FOR THE CURE! The twelfth annual edition takes place this Friday evening, Aug. 6, at Cosmic Eye Brewing, from 6 to 9 p.m. Brewers from the club donating beer to this charitable event (American Cancer Society) include Zach Fenton, Lacy Phillipe, Mark Beatty, Dustin Deischer, Jim Novotny, Adam Johnson and Paul Breitkreutz. The latest details, including donation information, can be found at the KFTC website.

TIME TO SOCIALIZE! The August Social will be out at 56th and Pine Lake Road on Sunday, Aug. 22. We’ll make an afternoon of exploring the wonderful beers of Catalyst – Kitchen, Taproom, Patio & Brewing Co.Zipline Brewing Company’s Beer Hall and Boiler Brewing Co. South. We’ll start at 1 p.m. at Catalyst, move to Zipline at 2 p.m. and finish at Boiler at 3 p.m. See you then!

BICYCLE SWAP MEET AT WHITE ELM! Here’s what we know so far about this White Elm Brewing event: It’s Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021. Load in can begin at 8:30 a.m., booths are 10′ x 10′, most of the vendors will be in the brewing area with a few outdoors (weather permitting), limited amount of tables, Pepe’s Bistro will be serving breakfast burritos in the morning, Motor Foods will be there for dinner and the band is TBA. More details to come soon!

THE CLUB PICNIC! We’re looking at a return to the annual Lincoln Lagers Pot Luck Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Tim & Theresa Thomssen are opening their lovely home for yet another fun evening. Hopefully it will be cooler by then. In the past, we’ve done a pot luck format, along with Tim cookin’ up something meaty on their home system. Oh, you Cornhusker footbal fans! You won’t miss the game versus the Sooners; it’s scheduled for an 11 a.m. kick off. More details about the menu and brew to come in the September Brewsletter.

THE SOWER’S CUP! We’re on! Yes! This event will take place on October 15 & 16, 2021, at the IBEW Local 265 Banquet Hall. We’re looking at a maximum of 308 entries. Zac Triemert and Brickway Brewery are in for our glassware sponsor. More sponsors to be announced soon. If you want to sponsor or be involved in the most fun brew event of the year, please pay attention at the meeting and follow along. Lots of opportunities for volunteering; we’ll need several stewards and judges. For the latest information, keep your eye on the Sower’s Cup page on the club’s website.

Quarterly Contest with the Omaha’s Local 402s Homebrew Club… The third round of the quarterly contest with the Local 402 Homebrewers Union from Omaha will feature Festbier/Märzen, and for the fourth-quarter, we’re looking at dopplebock. Still working on the details for the third quarter meet up. If you have a Festbier or Märzen, let us know! Let’s get your brew into the contest! Watch your email and Facebook for more details.

MEMBERSHIP… Well, well, there are still a couple of you who have yet to pay yer dues. You know that guilt you’re feeling as you toss and turn at night? Yeah, it’s probably from your not renewing your membership. Pour yourself a homebrew, click here and take care of it. You’ll sleep better; I promise.
