FeBREWary Meeting at Salt Mine City Brewing: Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025

We’re meeting in FeBREWary at Salt Mine City Brewing, 801 R Street, Suite 100, on Thursday, Feb. 6. Formed in 2022 in David City, Nebraska, Salt Mine City Brewing Company now has a taproom in Lincoln’s Hay Market – you’ll recognize this place as White Elm’s former location. Additional information can be found at their website.

We already have a handful of new members this year, so thought it would be good to mention that bringing homebrew to share is encouraged and pre-approved for all meetings. For the club socials, however, we want to support our local breweries and taprooms; we do not have permission to consume homebrew at those. We’ll start at 6 o’clock with the social hour and get on with business starting at 7 p.m. Bring some homebrew to share! Beer education to follow. Please reach out with any questions. Cheers!

Those able to attend the last couple of meetings were also introduced to something fun we’re doing in 2025: Lincoln Lagers BINGO! We’ll have physical copies available at next meeting. It’s fairly self-explanatory and should hopefully create some opportunities to add new or interesting things to your 2025 homebrewing experiences. Plus, it’s a chance to win gift cards to local breweries! Note that paying your dues before the end of January is one of the squares! There’s still time!

Night at the Stars – Lincoln Stars Hockey – Feb. 7, 2025!

Back to the Ice Box! Friday, February 7, 2025, is the official date for our Lincoln Stars Club Hockey Night! The Stars will be taking on their evil rivals, the Omaha Lancers. The Stars are currently ranked #1 in the western conference. Plus, the rink is doing Friday Night Pints where you can get $3 pours of a different rotating beer each week. This will be a game you won’t want to miss! LET’S GO, STARS!

Lincoln Lager Members’ Brewery Scale-ups!

• Doug Finke’s “Rice’n Easy”: It’s a rice lager using continental Pilsner malt, flaked rice, noble hops, and a crisp German yeast. Expect a light grainy malt character with a touch of grain sweetness, light floral hop character, and a clean dry finish. 4.3% abv. Available now at Code Beer Company!
• Kim Theesen’s “Three Broomsticks”: Kim’s mugwort ale won the scale-up after taking the gold medal the historical category in the 2024 Sower’s Cup. This gruit features mugwort, juniper berries and a collection of herbs and is now on tap at Boiler Brewing Company.
• Nick Langtry’s “Thiol Driver”: A Hazy IPA that used hops in the mash and a genetically modified yeast that unlocks bound thiol compounds to express fruity characteristics. It went on tap in early January at Corn Coast Brewing Company!
