March Meeting at White Elm Brewing Company: Thursday, March 6, 2025

We’re meeting in March at White Elm Brewing Co., 720 Van Dorn St., Lincoln, Nebraska, on Thursday, March 6. We have a few new members this year, so we thought it would be good to mention that bringing homebrew to share is encouraged and pre-approved for all meetings. For the club socials, however, we want to support our local breweries and taprooms; we do not have permission to consume homebrew at those. We’ll start at 6 o’clock with the social hour and get on with business starting at 7 p.m. Bring some homebrew to share!

Speaking of bringing homebrew to share, we’re trying something we haven’t done for a while: Spring cleaning! If you’ve been brewing for a while, you know you have a few old bottles of homebrew just takin’ up space. Maybe you haven’t been brave enough to crack ’em open or the label fell off and you can’t remember what it was… Bring ’em to the March meeting and we’ll open them together, compare notes, and see what’s in those “drink or dump” bottles.

Bingo? Bingo!!

Those able to attend the last couple of meetings were also introduced to something fun we’re doing in 2025: Lincoln Lagers BINGO! We’ll have physical copies available at next meeting. It’s fairly self-explanatory and should hopefully create some opportunities to add new or interesting things to your 2025 homebrewing experiences. Plus, it’s a chance to win gift cards to local breweries! Note that paying your dues before the end of January is one of the squares! There’s still time!

• Big Red Brew Club: They’re working on “The Sensory Experience of Beer,” so click here to find more information. Plus, the club is planning to host a beer ‘n’ cheese pairing in June or July.
• David City Brew Ha Ha: It takes place on March 15. Click here for details.
• Kegs for the Cure: The 2025 date is set for June 20 at Zipline Brewing Co. Check out their website for more details of this great cause!
• Nebraska Shootout: We have the date set for July 19. This year’s styles will be announced soon.
• Sower’s Cup: Ink in August 18-23 for this year’s competition. The Sower’s Pup is happening again! More details on this website!

Lincoln Lager Members’ Brewery Scale-ups!

• Doug Finke’s “Rice’n Easy”: It’s a rice lager using continental Pilsner malt, flaked rice, noble hops, and a crisp German yeast. Expect a light grainy malt character with a touch of grain sweetness, light floral hop character, and a clean dry finish. 4.3% abv. Available now at Code Beer Company!
• Kim Theesen’s “Three Broomsticks”: Kim’s mugwort ale won the scale-up after taking the gold medal the historical category in the 2024 Sower’s Cup. This gruit features mugwort, juniper berries and a collection of herbs and is now on tap at Boiler Brewing Company.
• Nick Langtry’s “Thiol Driver”: A Hazy IPA that used hops in the mash and a genetically modified yeast that unlocks bound thiol compounds to express fruity characteristics. It went on tap in early January at Corn Coast Brewing Company!
