Lagers, the 2012 AHA Big Brew is quick upon us!  Our very own hop abuser (aka Doug Finke) has agreed to again host this always-fun event on Saturday, May 5th.  We will be making our beer wort using the AHA’s posted Big Brew recipe called “Bucksnort Brown Ale“.

The Lincoln Lagers’ May 2012 Club Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Big Brew!  THE CLUB MEETING IS AT 2:00PM. Even if you do not participate in the Big Brew, please try to come out to Doug’s for the meeting portion of the day!

Any beers produced from our big batch of Bucksnort Brown Ale wort will be qualified for the 2012 Lincoln Lagers Club Challenge. Votes will be cast, and the winner will receive a special opportunity – the chance to brew their beer with Brian and the team at Blue Blood Brewing Company!

April’s meeting will be held at Blue Blood Brewing Co.!

Thursday, April 5, 2012 – Located at 500 W. South St

More information will be posted here and in the forum in the near future. You can stop by Blue Blood Brewing’s Web Site to stay entertained until then!

4th Annual Beer Tasting & Competition
and Lincoln Lagers Monthly Meeting
Saturday, October 15th, 2010
5:00 P.M.-????? (Until the cows come home or you go home!!)
330 South 44th St. Lincoln, NE

This years theme is: Wisconsin Breweries

This event will have over 20 commercial craft beers provided by DOGS & SPUDS in addition to a few of my home brews.

Admittance is FREE, but we encourage all of those attending to bring a commercial or home brew beer to share. There will be sausages, soup, bread and cheese provided, but I ask that everyone bring a SIDE DISH to share.

Once again this year we are also going to hold a “Best of Show Competition” between the home brewers. This competition will be based on the people’s choice. Everyone in attendance will have a vote to determine the “Best of Show Winner.” The winner will have their name placed on a traveling trophy and a cash prize of $30 will be awarded.

Additional information is on the Lincoln Lagers Forum. Questions can be addressed to Event Host Ryan Cairns, his number is listed in the forum thread.

See you on the 15th!!!

The Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club’s annual bus trip is quickly approaching.  On Saturday, July 9th, Lager members and friends will embark on our yearly excursion.  This year’s target city: Des Moines, Iowa.

There are two great brewery tours planned for Peace Tree Brewing and Court Avenue Brewing.  A stop at El Bait Shop to wet our whistles with their world class tap selection, as well as a stop at Beer Krazy, Des Moines favorite bottle shop/home brew supply store.

We will be meeting up in Lincoln at the Indian Village parking lot on 13th & High Street.  The bus leaves at 8am sharp (so be early) and will return around 10pm.  Be sure to bring a cooler filled with your favorite home brew/commercial beers to share, a tasting glass, and tasty snacks for the road (lets go easy on the deviled eggs this year).

Are you in Omaha? We have plans to make a stop to pickup/drop off our friends to the East.  We are open to the best spot, so drop us a line on our forum if you have a suggestion.  The Omaha pickup will be at 9am and drop off around 9pm.

Tickets are on sale through the Lincoln Lagers website www.lincolnlagers.com using PayPal (top two link on the right hand side of the home page.).  Tickets are $35 for 2011 paid members and $45 for non-members.

quick tip: You can pay for a 2011 membership on the website under the ‘Members’ menu option, and save the $10 instantly for the bus trip.

Seats are open to the public, and are first come first serve.  We will be traveling comfortably on an Arrow Stage Line bus equipped with a rest room and plenty of TV’s tuned to our favorite beer related movies.  This is one of the best beer events you will ever experience, and we hope to see you on the bus!

The stops will include:

Brewery tour of Peace Tree Brewing

El Bait Shop

Sunday, November 14th, the Bricktop Tap House will be hosting a very special event for a very important cause, ‘Drink Local Beer Fest to Benefit Pints for Prostates.’ This will be a fundraiser featuring ONLY Nebraska made craft beer, including some one-off limited beers brewed especially for this event that will not be available elsewhere for sale. Pints for Prostates is a grassroots campaign that uses the universal language of beer to reach men with an important health message, prostate cancer awareness.

The event will begin at 2 PM and last until 8 PM. There will be a $15 entrance at the door which includes a souvenir tasting glass and drink tickets to use for the featured local beers. Additional drink tickets and event t-shirts will be available for purchase inside.

Brewers and representatives from the Nebraska breweries will be on hand to mingle and talk beer. Breweries include: Empyrean, Lucky Bucket, Modern Monks, Nebraska Brewing Company, SchillingBridge, Spilker Ales, Thunderhead, and Upstream.

Some of the special local beers you can expect:

  • Modern Monks ~ Smoked Eisbock
  • Modern Monks ~ Bob 4.0 (sour ale)
  • Empyrean ~ Beer Quest Mochochino Milk Stout on Cask
  • Empyrean ~ Harvest Ale
  • Nebraska Brewing ~ Smoked Porter
  • Spilker Ales ~ New Zealand Hopped Hopluia
  • Upstream ~ Bauman’s Hop Farm Rye IPA
  • Upstream ~ Rauchbier
  • Lucky Bucket ~ Certified Evil
  • Thunderhead ~ Grand Cru (Saison)

In addition to the all the great local beer, Pints for Prostates has provided us with raffle tickets for a chance to win a beer lovers dream trip to the beer capitals of Europe, hosted by BeerTrips.com. This amazing beer trip includes roundtrip airfare for two, nine nights hotel, brewery tours, pub crawls, and train/coach transportation through Prague, Bamberg, & Munich during the 2011 Oktoberfest. Raffle tickets will be available for a $10 donation, 3 for a $25 donation, and 7 for a $50 donation. Proceeds will benefit Pints for Prostates.
