The fall tradition returns on Sunday, November 8th, at Doug Finke’s place. The plan is to build the best damn brown ale ever. Be part of history and join us. The six gallons of wort will be “around twenty dollars.” You add any other adjuncts, plus your own hops, and yeast. Contact Doug today and reserve your brew! Click on the graphic for more details in the LL Forum! We’ll also be having the monthly meeting in the afternoon after the Brew, probably around 3 pm. So, even if you’re not brewing, come on out and hang with the big brewers!

September Meeting will be the Annual Lincoln Lagers Picnic. See the Calendar Thread in the Forum for details!

Also stay tuned in to the Forum for information on all the other activities we’re involved in, including:

  • Oktobeerfest 2009Nebraska State Stroke Foundation benefit – (See Thread)
  • River City Roundup beer contest (See Site)
  • GABF planning (who’s in, rides, etc, see Thread)
  • 2009 Big Brew

and more.

The Monks are releasing their latest offering, St. Meinrad’s Quad Ale!

The release party is next Wednesday evening, March 11th 2009, at the Bread & Cup at 6:30pm.

There will be a special menu prepared to compliment all of the delicious flavors one will find while drinking a St. Meinrad. Here are a few of the special offerings Bread and Cup will have (along with their normal Fabulous Menu):

  • Confit Duck Legs $7
  • Crispy Bone Marrow $8
  • Roasted Chicken Wings $6
    -spicy peanut
    -sweet sesame
  • Flatbread with Serrano, Manchego & Quince $8

A word of caution for those that are not as prompt as others, the last time we had a release party, the kegs were empty in two and a half hours. Come join the Brothers for uncommonly good food and drink!

More info, visit the Modern Monks Blog or visit Bread & Cup.

Good news, we are finishing our transition away from the “temporary” domain name,, that we’ve been using during the new site implementation.

Bad news, there might be a short downtime during the switch-out. This could mean that the blog and/or forum may be inaccessible for a short amount of time. We do not anticipate any problems, and in a worst-case scenario, downtime should be less than 2 days.

I’ll keep you all updated here on the blog. Any questions, feel free to email Chris. Thanks! :)

Update! The transition is complete, and all content should be finished with its migration.

The blog theme is currently broken, I’m working to wrestle that back into place. The rest of it should be working.

THANK YOU ALL for your patience during the transition. If you see things that still refer to the old domain name, please send me a comment on this post, or email me, or contact me the forum. Thanks guys!!

We’ve completed tasting, scoring and discussion.  Our 10 finalists are:
Bryon Belding
Jim Ancioux
Josh Hammonds
Ryan Schweitzer
Mark Beatty
Brendan McGinn
Terry Schwimmer
Dave Hoag
Curtis Schanase
Jason Keel

Congratulations go out to Mark Beatty for winning yesterday’s Beer Quest Beers of the UK public competition. Mark won with a really tasty Irish Red Ale. It wasn’t easy as both Mitch Larsen’s Summer ESB and Josh Ames’ Oatmeal Stout were in close contention.

See all the scores at

To be honest I believe this is the first Beer Quest where the 2nd place beer actually received more 9 and 10 rankings than the winner. Mark got 332 of his 726 total points from 9 and 10 rankings. Mitch got 387 of his 700 points from 9 and 10 rankings. As we all know total points take the day and Mark received the lowest number of 1 and 2 rankings and the highest number of points from 3 – 8 rankings.

Sorry – I’m just spouting nonsensical numbers, must be an election year! Bottom line any of the 10 finalist beers could’ve won and any of them wouldíve made a great seasonal brew for us.

It just so happens that the only Irish style won the day and it will be tapped just in time for St. Pats on the 17th (if all goes well it will be on tap at Lazlo’s and FireWorks on the 13th of March.) From a marketing standpoint it’s as if the planets have aligned.

Our next Beer Quest WILL be for IPA (hops shortage be damned) – there will be SOME restrictions on variety of hops – at this time I’m unsure but we may have to limit the amount of hops we will provide each brewer – that’s all I’ll say until I’m for sure.

Registration forms for the IPA Beer Quest will be posted on the web Friday afternoon 2/22 and deadline for entry will be Friday 2/29.

Schedule and registration forms will be posted on this page

Thanks to all of you who have helped make this the coolest little beer event between the Mississippi and the Rockies!
