march

The January meeting is on Saturday 1/9/16 at 6pm. It’s held at a private residence – the address is in the club newsletter, and on our forum.

A quick note: Our January meeting/pot-luck holiday dinner event isn’t really the best representation of “what we do” for *brand new* folks who have never attended any club meetings before now – But if you’re already familiar with how the Lagers work, you’ve already decided you want to be a member, and you just need to take care of the formality of paying dues & joining up for 2016, then we welcome you to please join us at this private event.

We’ll be taking membership dues for 2016 ($30.00 – cash or check) – and electing our 2016 officers.
Bring your best pot-luck dish to share! (Any course)

If you’re not 100% ready to join, we encourage you to instead come visit us at our Club Social Event for the month of January. We’re hosting an informal pint night at Ploughshare Brewing Co. on Monday, 1/18/16 from 5:30-7:30pm – We’ll be in the Loft area.
(The policy regarding bringing your own beer to a Social Night event is subject to change each month – For January’s meet-up, please do NOT bring Homebrew with you to the Social Night.)

Our February meeting is Sunday, 2/7/16, from 2:00-4:00pm at The Happy Raven (and all are welcome to stay after 4pm to hang out!).

Our March meeting is Tuesday, 3/1/16, from 6:30-9:30pm at Zipline Brewing Co.

February Club Meeting:

Thursday, February 5, 2014 – 6:30pm – 9:30pm
The Clubhouse – 5000 Tipperary Trail – Lincoln, NE

If you’re one of the first to arrive or last to leave, please lend a hand with putting away tables & chairs, and making sure that everything is left spotless after we use it!

This month’s activity: Brewers-In-Arms Beer Tasting

This month, we’ll be tasting the results from each team project! Remember that in November, we assigned teams based on five countries or regions to our panel of 20 intrepid brewers. These masters of malt then set out in teams of four to execute their mission: to brew the “perfect” indigenous Pale Ale – basically, following the 10A American Pale Ale style guideline, and using only (1) Base malt, (1) Crystal-type malt, (1) specialty malt of their choosing, plus hops and yeast, all of which are native to their assigned region.

Join us next month to hear more from Teams America, England/UK, France/Belgium, Germany, and Southern Hemisphere — we’ll learn what ingredients they chose, how they sourced them, and we’ll get to taste the final result from each team! Many of the teams are bringing more than one variation of their beer!

Whose beer will reign supreme? Your vote will decide!

But wait – There’s more!!!  Continue reading

We are going to meet at Blue Blood Brewing Co. on Thursday, March 6th from 7pm-9pm.

The style of the month will be IPAs and we’re going to hear a Tech Talk on hopping your IPAs from our own resident “hopping-mad” scientist, Tim Thomssen.

A huge congratulations is in order for all the Lagers who did an amazing job at Beer Quest last weekend! Jason Davis‘ beer earned Best of Show in the initial BJCP judging round. At Beer Quest, Co-brewers Bill Luhman and Aaron Carnes won the public vote (This makes Aaron’s 5th Beer Quest win!!), with Brian Hoesing not far behind, finishing in 2nd place.  Thanks to all of our members who represented the Lincoln Lagers quite well!!

In Kansas City, Tim Thomssen earned two First Place finishes (4B Munich Dunkel and 21A Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer ) and also nabbed three Third Place spots (19C American Barleywine, 24B Semi-Sweet Mead, & 30A XXX American Awesome) in the KC Bier Meisters 2013 competition – Way to go, Tim!
