Sunday, November 14th, the Bricktop Tap House will be hosting a very special event for a very important cause, ‘Drink Local Beer Fest to Benefit Pints for Prostates.’ This will be a fundraiser featuring ONLY Nebraska made craft beer, including some one-off limited beers brewed especially for this event that will not be available elsewhere for sale. Pints for Prostates is a grassroots campaign that uses the universal language of beer to reach men with an important health message, prostate cancer awareness.
The event will begin at 2 PM and last until 8 PM. There will be a $15 entrance at the door which includes a souvenir tasting glass and drink tickets to use for the featured local beers. Additional drink tickets and event t-shirts will be available for purchase inside.
Brewers and representatives from the Nebraska breweries will be on hand to mingle and talk beer. Breweries include: Empyrean, Lucky Bucket, Modern Monks, Nebraska Brewing Company, SchillingBridge, Spilker Ales, Thunderhead, and Upstream.
Some of the special local beers you can expect:
- Modern Monks ~ Smoked Eisbock
- Modern Monks ~ Bob 4.0 (sour ale)
- Empyrean ~ Beer Quest Mochochino Milk Stout on Cask
- Empyrean ~ Harvest Ale
- Nebraska Brewing ~ Smoked Porter
- Spilker Ales ~ New Zealand Hopped Hopluia
- Upstream ~ Bauman’s Hop Farm Rye IPA

In addition to the all the great local beer, Pints for Prostates has provided us with raffle tickets for a chance to win a beer lovers dream trip to the beer capitals of Europe, hosted by BeerTrips.com. This amazing beer trip includes roundtrip airfare for two, nine nights hotel, brewery tours, pub crawls, and train/coach transportation through Prague, Bamberg, & Munich during the 2011 Oktoberfest. Raffle tickets will be available for a $10 donation, 3 for a $25 donation, and 7 for a $50 donation. Proceeds will benefit Pints for Prostates.

2010 Lincoln Lagers CHALLENGE: YEAST
Full details will be on the Web site at a later date.
The bottom line is everybody will get the same grain and hops, probably something similar to a brown ale. We will start a list of your preferred yeast strain. No duplicates.
If we can get the minimum confirmations, then Kim will coordinate the kits with Kirk and have them ready for the September meeting. The contest will be a “best damn beer” format and will take place in December. Please (contact Kim T.) and let him know you’re interested in the comparison contest.
THE AHA CLUB ONLY COMPETITION
We’re looking at a deadline to get any entries to Mark Beatty by 8/22. This next theme is “Pucker Up: Sour & Wild Ales.”
Beers are due in the first week in September.
BJCP STUDY GROUP
Jason McLaughlin is coordinating. The exam is scheduled for Sunday, November 7. (Let him know) if you are interested in the class and/or want to retake any part of the examination.
OKTO BEERFEST
The 17th annual benefit for the Nebraska State Stroke Association will take place on Thursday, October 21.
As in the past several years, we will need some beer to donate to this worthy cause. We donated 20 or 25 gallons last year. Please let us know if you’d like to brew and/or donate to the cause. This is pretty much the only charity the club has and it’s one heck of a party. (forum thread)

THE AUGUST MEETING
We’re gong to Jason McLaughlin’s place on Sunday, August 8, 2010. It’s also the AHA Mead Day.
We can get things started at 4 pm, and interested parties should bring their carboys and honey to make a mead. The AHA has posted a recipe and instructions for the 2010 event http://wiki.americanhomebrewers.org/MeadDay2010. We will BBQ some food, and people should bring some lawn chairs as well. If any Lincoln Lagers have some finished mead, please bring some for people to try. We could get some type of mead talk, too, from those who attended the NHC last June in Minnesota.

KANSAS CITY HERE WE COME…
2010 BUS TRIP is occurring on SUNDAY, AUGUST 15th.
We have a special behind the scenes tour of KC’s Boulevard Brewery. The plan is to leave at 8 am from the Indian Village Parking Lot, then arrive in KC and take the tour at noon. After that we’ll hang out at the Flying Saucer, an awesome pub with an amazing selection of brew. For the rest of the afternoon there’s plenty to see and do in KC’s Power and Light District. At about 5:30, we’ll board the bus and head on over to Lukas Liquors in Kansas City, for some time to shop and select the finest of beers from breweries we can’t get here. We should have you home in Lincoln between 10 and 10:30 pm.
The actual printed tickets will be available at the August meeting. Until then, the official sign up list will be posted on the club forum. Reserve your seats today. Tickets will probably be $40 again this year for Lincoln Lagers members and that will include lunch and tip for the driver. (Add $5 per ticket if you’re not a LL member.) We should have several door prizes lined up too. Cast your vote for your favorite beer-themed movie for the in flight entertainment. More details will be coming. Let us know if you want to join us on the Lincoln Lagers annual bus trip. Click here for the Bus Trip forum thread.
