About Lincoln Lagers
Highlights of Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club
Club History
Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club was conceived by a few home brewers in November of 1993. From the beginning, our purpose has been for members to share ideas and knowledge, thus improving the fun and success of each members brewing experience. We have all levels of brewers from novices to the experts. We also have extract brewers and all grain brewers. If you have questions relating to beer styles, equipment, recipes, grains, brewing techniques, etc, the club is a great resource. Each January, nominations are taken for new officers and voted upon; President, Secretary/treasurer, and Newsletter editor. The officers, along with input from the club set the agenda for the year. We have monthly meetings and special events through out the year. We are designed to be a family friendly club, that supports and educates brewers, and promotes safe and responsible consumption of beer.
Meetings
We have club meetings the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 P.M. Our monthly meetings move from private homes to public venues. Check on this website’s home page for day and time as some of our special events will fall on weekends. We usually have topics such as evaluating a particular beer style, yeast differences, equipment building, off flavors, or any topic a member wants to have addressed. If you have a brewing related question you have been unable to get an answer to or just want to see what the club is about please come to one of our meetings. We would be glad have you.
Club Picnic
The club has 4 annual events. We have a club picnic every year. Spouses, siblings, and member’s friends are welcome. We have the picnic in August and alternate among members’ houses. The club supplies the meat and everyone brings a covered dish and samples of their homebrew of course. We have a mead contest every year at the picnic where our wives, girlfriends, etc. are the judges. I must say they are very critical and there usually isn’t any mead left to sample for the winning or the losing entries. None of the women are expert judges, but have a lot of fun.
Club Trip
We have a group trip to one of the area breweries usually in February. We have traveled to Brewpubs in Columbus, Omaha, and Kearney in Nebraska, Lawrence Kansas, Des Moines Iowa, and Kansas City Missouri. Some of these trips have been joint ventures with the Omaha Hops Brew club. The trips are fun, educational and interesting. Members of the club are given the first opportunity for seats on the bus, before opening it up to the public to help fill the bus. The trip is often subsidized by the brew club, to keep the cost of the trip at a reasonable price for the members.
All Grain/Gang Brew
We have an all grain brewing demonstration every year usually in December. This is an all day event, but you are welcome to drop in for short periods of the day if unable to participate for the whole day. The brew club provides some of the food for the event with members asked to bring side dishes, or snacks. This is a great opportunity for new and old members to see how fellow brewers produce their outstanding beers and to pick up handy tips to help streamline their own brewing process, or to see the latest equipment and different brewing processes of fellow members.
Contests
The Lincoln Lagers club and the Omaha Hops club started a yearly contest between clubs for those of you that like competitions. It’s also an excellent venue to have your beer evaluated by independent BJC certified judge. Participation is not required. There is a traveling trophy for the winning club.
Becoming a Member
Our membership dues are $25.00 per year, and are paid in January. We use the dues for judging fees, supplies, mailing, and last year we partially subsidized our brewery trip. Contact one of our officers or come to a meeting to join.
